Frequently Asked Questions:

  • How do you collect my DNA?
We just need 2ml of your saliva to be placed in the kit’s collection tube
  • Can I eat before sample collection for DNA testing?
Yes, but you need to brush your teeth and have nothing to eat, drink or smoke 30 minutes before giving your sample.
  • What technology do you use for sequencing my DNA?
Next Generation sequencing is an ultra-high throughput method to determine the order of nucleotides in entire genomes or targeted regions of DNA depending on your needs. We could do: o Whole Exome Sequencing: Exons are the sections of the genome that are transcribed into mRNA and translated into proteins. Altogether, the exons make up the exome — about 2% of the total genome o Whole Genome Sequencing: is the process of determining the order of bases of all your DNA (exons and introns).
  • How long do I have to wait for the result?
It can take up to 9 weeks for your results to come through
  • What are the reports I get for the standard package?
Nutrigenomics: This report summarizes the effects of specific genetic variants on metabolism or eating behavior and advice on how to include different nutrients in the diet. There are different sections on macronutrients, micronutrients, eating habits, taste and reactions, and body weight. Fitness: get 100+ insights about your risk of injury, your rate of recovery, your muscle power and build, your pre-disposed basal metabolic rate and much more. Pharmacogenetics: The report identifies genetic predispositions towards the failure of response to drugs or adverse reactions from the administration of the drug Wellness: this report summarizes the presence of variants for 200 health conditions and highlights any high risk or medium risk conditions.
  • If I am curious to explore other reports, do I need to send in a new sample?
    Depends on the test.
  • How do I know which package is best for me?
We suggest you book a genetic consultation to recommend the ideal tests for you based on your concerns.
